48 hours in Madison
Strictly speaking this was a three night stay in Madison, Wisconsin but in reality on a full 48 hours was spent here, so what can you do?
First of all the city of 250,000 is the state capital of Wisconsin and the city is dominated by the Capitol building, a fine construction dating back to the early years of the twentieth century. The good news for visitors is that there are free tours throughout the week, including Sunday. The tours last around an hour and include the law courts as well as the legislature. Well worth an hour of anyone’s time. Head to the reception area for details. The tours are not available when the senate and law courts are in session. Check the line here for more information.

Entertainment. The purpose of my trip was to see a gig which took place at the https://www.thesylvee.com/ – Great venue with large bar opposite the stage. The sound was excellent and some top artists visit over the course of the year. Other venues in the city include http://madisonorpheum.com/. Near to the Orpheum in the Comedy Club. Rules here for the night I went was book ticket for show and commit to buying two drinks during the course of the entertainment, which are brought to your table. I have found this commonplace in venues like this and would say that it worked out at around $35 per head. https://www.madisoncomedy.com/
The Lakes. In the summer, Madison becomes an outdoors paradise based around the lakes which surround the city. The threat of thunderstorms prevented me from enjoying all there was on offer in 48 hours but more information is available here: https://www.visitmadison.com/events/
The Market. Saturday is the day for the Farmer’s Market which fringes all four corners of the Capitol. Fresh everything from meat, flowers, bread and fruit is available to buy. However, if I was to recommend anything it would be Bumbleberry Pie at Pilgrim’s Pantry. Delicious.
Food and Drink. As I always say this is a matter of choice. Coffee shops are everywhere and there is a wide range of restaurants to suit most tastes. My favourite discovery was Mexican Mocha at http://marigoldkitchen.com/ . A mocha with a bit of a kick.
