USA - Posting from Brooklyn
I should not be surprised by the USA, I have been coming here for three decades but I am always struck by its vastness. Normally when I write these entries, it is in retrospect having given myself time to contemplate what it is I wish to convey. This however is being written as I journey. Nevertheless there is a retrospective element to it as part one if the adventure has been undertaken.
Best of all though the Sunday Stroll to Manhattan across Brooklyn Bridge. I have done this before and, I hope, will again. A most agreeable way to spend a morning. Check out too many of the great restaurants. Our favourite was Broccolino which served fine Italian and splendid beers.
Brooklyn is of course enormous but we situated ourselves close to Atlantic Terminal. From here is possible to reach just about anywhere on Manhattan Island with a host of Subway (MTA) lines passing through. Atlantic Terminal can also be a starting point for train travel to Long Island. For shows and concerts check out the performances at the Barclays Center. You can also find basketball, ice-hockey and boxing events here throughout the year.
This early part to me to the fascinating city of New York. What can I add to the many words of writers more gifted than myself? Very little poetically but I will offer a small insight into my personal journey.
There will be more to come in subsequent entries but I begin in Brooklyn. Brooklyn is not Manhattan as anybody from the island will tell you but Brooklyn is fighting back in a good way. I was staying in an apartment near Fort Greene. It was apparent to me that this area had been smartened up over the years. Look in the window of any Estate Agent or Real Estate as they call them here and the prices speak for themselves. Look at the cars on the street. Fort Greene is smart. Smarter too, the 20 minute Subway ride to Manhattan.
